Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven

Seventh in The Lord's Prayer Series, "The best prayer to pray in times of stress"

The Lord likes to dialog with his children. He asks us questions though he knows all the answers and what is in our hearts, because he wants to talk with us.

In the garden of Eden, God asked, "Where are you? Who told you you were naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree…?" Did he not know the answers? But man must confess. We need to communicate with the Lord.

In prayer we do that.

Regarding the Lord's prayer, one of his disciples asked, "Lord, teach us to pray" (Luke 11:1).

He had taught the prayer earlier in his ministry when on the Mount as Matthew wrote (Mat 6:6-15), even before Matthew had been called as a disciple (in Mat 9:9).

This prayer is so important for us to pray, to communicate with God. He has put these words in our mouth, at the request of those nearest to him, and before they knew to ask. These are the words he wants to hear, so we can know we may pray in the Spirit as we say them, and will have the requests we ask: "Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven." It relieves us of stress to know that we can trust God to manage all earthly affairs perfectly, just as he manages all the affairs of heaven, though this is not always apparent.

We will walk by faith and not by sight.

On earth:
I wait for you, O LORD; you will answer, O Lord my God. (Ps 38:15)
...as it is in heaven:
Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. (Isa 65:24)
