A Bible Study and Contemporary Application of Genesis 11-19 by Anne Turner

KEY VERSE: Genesis 19:29 "So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived."

Introduction

God Remembered Abraham is a Bible Study to encourage the practice of intercessory prayer. It is a verse by verse study of the story of Abraham and Lot in which we find the Bible’s first account of intercessory prayer.

A contemporary true story about a husband and wife is included that presents an application of the key Scripture,

“So when God destroyed the cities of the plain, he remembered Abraham, and he brought Lot out of the catastrophe that overthrew the cities where Lot had lived.” - Genesis 19:29

The wife and her sister, me—the author, prayed for 15 years for the husband to become a Christian. This story will encourage anyone experiencing marital problems or with unsaved loved ones, and illustrates that God works today as he did 4,000 years ago.

Occasionally you will find words or sentences in bold style or a different color for emphasis.

The contemporary story is on a beige background.

The story usually follows the Bible Study within each chapter, but in some cases, it appears first.

A section of the Westminster Confession has been included in each chapter as a way of illuminating various topics and has a gold background. This Confession is enjoyed by various denominations.

Each chapter includes a Further Study which is a fairly brief continuation of a topic in the study. It is included for those who like to STUDY. Further Study Sections appear on a blue-gray background on a separate page.

Author’s Note

My sincere thanks to those who helped to improve God Remembered Abraham. I will mention no names since my sister desires to remain anonymous, so any mention of names is not possible.

I also thank the staff of the Institute for Creation Research for all I have learned from their lectures and books.

The illustrations by Doré and others were found on the web, thanks to those who collected them. I created the diagrams and the maps, based on maps in my Bible.

Although this Bible Study relates the importance of staying in a marriage to allow the Lord time to act, I know there are many women who love the Lord, yet who divorce for good reasons or bad, and my heart is with them.
